AfDB to Lead $8 Billion Mobilization for Ethiopia's Mega Airport in Push for Integration & Connectivity
The signing ceremony between the Ethiopian Airlines CEO and the AfDB vice president is set for Monday, the bank announced.
Key details about Ethiopia's new airport:
🟠Once completed, it will become Africa's largest airport and Ethiopian Airlines' new global hub;
🟠Complements Bole International Airport, which will shift to domestic flights;
🟠Initial capacity: 60 million passengers a year, expandable to 110 million;
🟠Construction of Phase 1 begins in late 2025;
🟠Located 40 km south of Addis Ababa;
🟠Total project cost is $10 billion.

"The new airport project emphasizes network expansion, infrastructure development, and human capital investment to address current capacity constraints," the statement read.
