SA's Fast-Track Visa Scheme Attracts Over 25,000 Tourists in Six Months, Home Affairs Minister Says
After the success, the government launched the second phase of the Trusted Tour Operator Scheme (TTOS) to further boost tourism-driven job creation, Minister Leon Schreiber announced in a statement.
"TTOS demonstrates the power of our digital transformation agenda to enable economic growth and create jobs," the official remarked.
Key details on the initiative:
Launched in February, to speed up visa processing for group tourists from India and China, it replaced the slow, paper-based system with online applications and digital outcomes in 24 hours;
110 trusted tour operators are approved with the launch of the second phase, up from the initial 65;
25,024 additional tourists brought to SA — who otherwise might have been deterred by delays;
Already created over 1,900 new jobs (one job per 13 tourists);
Part of broader digital push: includes upcoming Electronic Travel Authorization and special visa schemes for events and creative industries.
