MOSCOW (Sputnik) - ASEAN comprises Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. Timor-Leste, currently an observer, is set to become a full-member in October. Malaysia holds the chairmanship of the association this year under annual rotation system.
US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will attend the 47th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Kuala Lumpur in October, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Friday.
"Securing their presence is only the first step. The greater test is to ensure that they leave Malaysia and ASEAN feeling their time was well spent. We must ensure that their visit yields results of lasting value. The eyes of the world will be upon us. We must, therefore, rise to the occasion," Ibrahim said in an address marking the 58th ASEAN Day.
The summit will bring together 10 ASEAN member states and the association's dialogue partners to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and pressing global issues.
ASEAN dialogue partners include China, Russia, the US, India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, South Korea, the EU and the UK.
