Nigeria's $52-million Alau Dam Upgrade to Boost Irrigation, Power Supply by 2027
The Federal Government has announced that the Alau Dam upgrade in Borno State will improve irrigation, provide drinking water, and generate hydroelectric power by 2027.
Originally constructed for potable water, the dam is being expanded under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to support large-scale farming and future power generation.
The project, divided into two phases, will see the first phase—focused on flood prevention—completed by September 2025, with full reconstruction targeted for March 2027.
Officials assured residents that there is no risk of flooding during the upgrade.
