Flood Alert Issued for 86% of Nigeria's Territory
The government has issued a warning for residents of 198 local government areas in 31 out of the country's 36 states, according to the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency.
Heavy rains and flooding are likely in the coming days, particularly in the southern region, including the economic capital, Lagos.
Nigeria’s emergency agency has put rescue teams and equipment on high alert, urging residents in high-risk flood areas to move to safety.
Last year, more than 5 million people in Nigeria were affected and over 1,200 died as a result of a series of floods that occurred across Nigeria.
