US Introduces Visa Bonds Ranging From $5,000 to $15,000 for Zambian, Malawian Visitors
This measure, which targets countries with high rates of visa overstays and deficiencies in screening and vetting, will take effect on August 20 for B1/B2 tourist and business visas, according to the State Department.
The bond will be refunded if the visa holder departs the US within the authorized period and adheres to all visa terms. The list of participating countries may be updated, the department said.
Travelers required to post a bond must enter and exit the US through specific airports.
Previously, the US had already imposed a travel ban on citizens from 19 nations citing national security grounds. The African Union Commission reacted to the restrictions, urging a "balanced, evidence-based" strategy to protecting US borders.
