Kursk: One Year After Ukraine's 'Barbaric' Invasion

Memorial services were held across all churches in Kursk on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, to mark the anniversary of what Acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein described as a "barbaric invasion" by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Bells rang simultaneously throughout the region in remembrance of those who perished.

"It is a day that will forever be inscribed in the new history of the Kursk region and our country. A day when everyone's life here changed. A tragic date," wrote Khinshtein.

He stated that thousands were forced to flee their homes, leaving their possessions behind, and that many lost loved ones.

The acting governor likened the current period to the Great Patriotic War, asserting that "our people proved to be too tough for the enemy."
