South Africa Deports Nearly 10,000 Illegal Immigrants in Three Months
According to South Africa's border control, this includes individuals who attempted to enter the country unlawfully between April and June of this year. The majority of those deported are from neighboring countries, such as Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Mozambique.
Since June 2022, border officials have intercepted nearly 496,000 attempted illegal entries. The deportations come amid ongoing concerns about illegal immigration, with groups like "Operation Dudula" advocating for the expulsion of illegal migrants, citing concerns over job displacement and misuse of social programs.
ℹ The United Nations estimates that around 3 million undocumented migrants reside in South Africa, primarily from neighboring African nations.
