Pan-Africanism is Total Freedom — Political, Cultural, Economic & Mental, Ethiopian Scholar Says
"When we say Pan-Africanism, it means completely free, […] in every sense — in our mind, our pockets and our very souls should be free," Mohammed Awel Hagos of the Werabe University told Sputnik Africa.
Here is what Pan-African freedom really means, according to the speaker:
Psychological freedom: Healing the past, restoring pride, and knowing "our true words."
Cultural freedom: Reclaiming African languages, stories, and traditions "that colonialism tried to erase."
Economic freedom: Ending unfair trade, "crushing" debt, and foreign influence that still makes Africa "bleeding dry."
Land reparations: Stolen land and wealth must be returned to make sure Africa's resources benefit its people, "not the foreign corporations."
Moreover, a Pan-African truth and reconciliation process could be a game changer for global justice:
"It would demand accountability, not just from states, but from corporations as well, from institutions, even families that benefited."
