The DRC and Rwanda initialed the Regional Economic Integration Framework Tenets — a requirement outlined in the peace agreement signed on June 27, the US State Department said in a statement. The DRC and Rwanda will boost economic growth in the Great Lakes region by cooperating in energy, infrastructure, mining, national park management, tourism and public health, the statement noted. This week's meetings in Washington aimed to ensure long-term stability and durable peace and "unlock the immense economic potential" in the region, the statement added.

"They are taking meaningful actions to advance security and economic cooperation," the department stressed, as the development follows the first meeting of a joint committee to oversee the peace deal implementation.
This week's meetings in Washington aimed to ensure long-term stability and durable peace and "unlock the immense economic potential" in the region, the statement added.
