Botswana-Zambia Cooperation Upgraded to Bi-National Commission to Deepen Historical Ties
Presidents Duma Boko and Hakainde Hichilema launched the inaugural BNC commission in Lusaka — replacing the old Joint Permanent Commission to boost high-level cooperation.
Three memoranda signed on:
Rules of procedure for BNC meetings and working groups;
Disaster risk management – info sharing, joint response, and policies for cross-border disasters;
Health cooperation – including HIV/AIDS programs and patient referrals between Zambian and Botswanan hospitals.
🟠 Key goals of the bilateral cooperation, according to the presidents:
🟠Strengthen trade, investment and regional connectivity;
🟠Keep economic value within Africa by boosting intra-African trade;
🟠Uphold peace and enhance political stability and people-centered development;
🟠Upgrade infrastructure use – including exploring a railway link via Kazungula Bridge.
