EAC, SADC Align Regional Peace Efforts to Tackle DRC Crisis
Presidents Emmerson Mnangagwa (SADC chair) and William Ruto (EAC chair) held high-level talks in Nairobi to boost peace in eastern DRC, the Zimbabwean MFA said in a statement.
Key outcomes of the meeting:
🟠AUC, EAC, and SADC to merge technical secretariats under AUC leadership;
🟠Push for African-led peace, uniting EAC, SADC, and AU efforts;
🟠Five former African leaders appointed as peace facilitators;
🟠Nairobi and Luanda processes to be combined;
🟠Funding and coordination discussed with AU.
"The DRC's stability is critical not only for Central Africa but also for the peace and economic progress of our entire continent," stated Ruto.
"We are committed to ensuring that our brothers and sisters in the DRC achieve durable peace and national cohesion," noted Mnangagwa.
