Suez Canal Earned $153.4 Billion Since Nationalization in 1956, Canal Authority Chief Says

"This achievement underscores Egypt's success in maintaining sovereignty over this crucial maritime passage," Suez Canal Authority Managing Director Osama Mounier Mohamed Rabie told a Chinese media outlet.

According to the official, by the 69th nationalization anniversary, the canal has:

🟠Facilitated transit of approximately 1.1 million ships;
🟠Expanded draft from 10 to 22 meters;
🟠Extended dual-lane sections from 27.7 km to 99 km.

Rabie hailed the post-1956 development as unmatched since the canal’s 1869 opening.

"Tensions in the Red Sea have severely impacted operations," he noted, adding that today, traffic has dropped sharply:

▪75–80 ships per day before Houthi attacks on commercial vessels;
▪Now only 30–35 ships per day.
