Namibia Launches Bold Push to End Learning Poverty & Leave 'No Child Left Behind'
"No society can thrive if its youngest members are unable to master basic literacy and numeracy skills," President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said in a message delivered by PM Elijah Ngurare.
The national campaign was launched under the AU’s End Learning Poverty for All in Africa initiative, aiming to end learning poverty by 2035 through action plans, policy commitment, funding, and scalable solutions.
"Millions of African children are unable to read or understand a simple passage by the age of 10. This reality threatens our ability to cultivate skilled, innovative, and empowered citizens who can drive Africa's development," the president warned.
That is why over 23% of the national budget and 9% of GDP are allocated to education, she pointed out, urging the Ministries of Education, Finance, ICT, and others to align their efforts and budgets.
