Indonesia & Ethiopia Forge Cultural Alliance, Seek Joint UNESCO Heritage Bid
Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon met with Ethiopian Ambassador Fekadu Beyene Aleka to advance "enhanced synergy and cultural cooperation," focusing on:
🟠A planned memorandum of understanding in the cultural sector;
🟠An invitation for Ethiopia to attend Indonesia’s Culture, Heritage, Arts, Narratives, Diplomacy and Innovation Summit 2025;
🟠A proposal for a joint UNESCO nomination for intangible cultural heritage — inspired by Indonesia’s collaboration with West African nations on kulintang and balafon music.
"Indonesia and Ethiopia have a great opportunity to build cultures and encourage people from both countries to be better. It's an amazing thing to work together and learn from each other," Indonesian media quoted Fekadu as saying.
