Russian Training Ship Smolny Makes Stop in Congo, Baltic Fleet Says
The Russian Navy's ship was on an informal visit to the Pointe-Noire port, and has resumed its voyage into the Atlantic Ocean as part of a long-distance training cruise, the press service of the Baltic Fleet told Russian media.
According to the Russian embassy in Congo, during the stay, the crew:
🟠Held a ceremonial parade with national anthems and a guard of honor;
🟠Met with the Pointe-Noire prefect, a Congolese military commander and the Russian embassy representatives;
🟠Discussed expanding naval cooperation and strengthening military-technical ties;
Over 400 people are onboard including 200 cadets undergoing training, the embassy noted.
