Volcanic Eruption in Kamchatka, Russia, Hit by a Powerful Earthquake

The Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano spewed ash 8 kilometers into the sky as aftershocks from the major earthquake continue in the region.

"We are observing a descent of hot lava along the western slope. There is a powerful glow above the volcano and explosions," stated the local branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The "Volcanoes of Kamchatka" natural parks have been closed due to seismic activity.
