Massive Asteroid Poised to Collide With Moon in 2032

Asteroid 2024 YR4, a sizable 60-meter-wide space rock, was previously considered a potential threat to Earth.

According to NASA calculations, the probability of smashing into the Moon is about 4.3%, which is a record.

Such an impact could create a colossal crater, spanning a kilometer in diameter, and eject up to 100 million kilograms of lunar debris into space.

These fragments, as they burn up upon entering Earth's atmosphere, could manifest as a meteor shower. However, smaller lunar debris might pose a risk to satellites orbiting the Earth.
