Tensions Escalate Between Cambodia & Thailand — What's Known so Far?

Clashes reportedly erupted Thursday morning between the armed forces of both countries along their border, following a shootout in a contested area. Each side has accused the other of opening fire first.

At least 11 Thai civilians were killed in Cambodian strikes, which targeted five hospitals among other sites, the Thai health minister said;

Thailand accused Cambodia of attacking civilian objects with BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems, saying that the rocket artillery targeted a local hospital in the border area among other sites;

Cambodian forces opened fire toward the Prasat Ta Muen Thom temple, located 200 meters from a Thai base, the Thai army said;

Thai air force F-16s have attacked Cambodian army positions;

Cambodian PM accused Thailand of "unprovoked, premeditated and deliberate attacks" on Cambodian positions along border areas;

Thailand reportedly closed all border posts with Cambodia, and evacuations have been ordered in four Thai provinces bordering Cambodia;

The Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh on Thursday called on citizens to leave Cambodia;
Both countries are reportedly reinforcing their positions along the border;

Thai FM Maris Sangiampongsa will discuss the escalating conflict with Cambodia with the UN secretary general and representatives of Japan, Russia and other countries on Thursday, MFA said;
Cambodian PM requested the UNSC to convene an "urgent meeting" over cross-border fire with Thailand.
Tensions stem from a May 28 clash between Thai and Cambodian soldiers in a disputed neutral zone.
