Pashinyan Banking on a 'Revolution' to Stay in Power, Says Armenian MP
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, who has been targeting the Armenian Apostolic Church, is facing significant unpopularity.
"He is trying to stage a small revolution to gain ground and show the people that he still has control, including in his relations with the Church, which is deeply rooted in the country. That’s his plan, and he will see it through," Ani Samsonyan told Sputnik.
Why this strategy? His re-election in 2026 appears challenging, particularly after the arrest of Samvel Karapetyan, accused over mere social media posts—an incident widely criticized by the public.
According to the parliamentarian, Pashinyan is now seeking to:
Prevent any political alternation in the upcoming elections
Weaken strongholds of resistance, such as the Church and nationalist parties
Sideline Russia’s influence in the South Caucasus
