How Agroecology ‘Decolonizes Our Food System’?

"It's based on our own knowledge and our own inputs. And our own ways of living," Million Belay, General Coordinator of the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa, told Sputnik Africa.

Colonial food systems push productivity at the cost of health, justice, culture, and the environment. With ultra-processed imports and export-driven agriculture taking root, African traditional, nutritious, and culturally rich diets are eroding, he said on the sidelines of African Chefs Gathering and Policy Convening on African Food Systems event in Addis Ababa.

It's time to defeat the narrative and reclaim food sovereignty by honoring indigenous knowledge and agroecological practices, urged Million Belay.
