Tanzania Poised to Join Top 10 Global Uranium Producers With New Mining Site, Minerals Minister Says

Uranium mining is set to begin soon in Tanzania’s southern Namtumbo District, following the completion of a pilot refining plant, Minister Anthony Mavunde announced during a site inspection.

Key details:

🟠$1.19 billion project led by Mantra Tanzania (Russia's Rosatom subsidiary);

🟠the mine's uranium ore reserves estimated at 139 million tonnes;

🟠uranium enrichment plant is already constructed;

🟠mine life estimated at 22 years.

Potential benefits:

🟠over 4,000 direct jobs to be created;

🟠plans for uranium-powered electricity generation;

🟠expected to transform lives of local residents.
