Gaza’s Newborns Face Peril Amid Power Outages and War

In the first half of the year, 17,000 children were born in the Gaza Strip—one in ten premature or underweight. Hospitals lack baby formula, fuel, medical equipment, and staff. At Al-Shifa hospital, "premature infants are placed three to four in a single incubator."

“The biggest problems are related to the constant power outages... if the electricity goes out, they will completely stop working,” Dr. Ziad al-Masri warned in an interview with Sputnik.

Since October 7, 2023, over 59,000 have died and 142,000 have been injured in Gaza, including more than 18,000 children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
