Ghana: Phase II of Blekusu Coastal Protection Project Kicks Off in Ketu South
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Ghana's President John Mahama reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding coastal communities and their environment, describing the initiative as a demonstration of responsible leadership.
He emphasized the urgent need to protect communities from recurring tidal waves, a growing challenge along Ghana’s coastline.
AMANDI, the project contractor, has 48 months to construct 37 rock groynes, coastal structures designed to trap sediment and reduce erosion, and reclaim land, effectively protecting eight kilometers of coastline, the president noted.
In addition to environmental protection, the initiative includes the development of key community infrastructure, such as

🟠processing facilities,
🟠drying platforms,
🟠a car park,
🟠sanitation facilities,
🟠a waste collection system.
The project aims to build resilience by combining coastal defense with socio-economic development.
