Armenia's Crackdown on Religious & Public Leaders is Sign of 'Growing Authoritarianism,' Algerian MP Says
The government of PM Nikol Pashinyan is tightening its grip on political life, "methodically suppressing” opposition forces — whether politicians, religious leaders, or entrepreneurs, Mousa Kherfi told Sputnik.
"The authorities see independent spiritual leaders as a threat, especially after they criticized Armenia's pro-Western and pro-Ukrainian shift — at the expense of the Armenian people's interests," he explained.
Even the Armenian Apostolic Church, which is historically the "bedrock of national identity, not just faith, is under pressure," the official stressed.
