'Africa's Call for Reparative Justice is No Longer Whisper'—It is Unified Truth-Based Demand, Ghana's President Says
"We call upon all nations, within and beyond Africa, to partner with us in shaping a more just and equitable world," John Dramani Mahama stated at the AU meeting in Equatorial Guinea.
Mahama welcomed the AU's recent decision to extend the reparations agenda until 2036. The AU achieved notable progress under the 2025 theme "Justice for Africans & People of African Descent Through Reparations," he noted.
According to him, reparations are about:
reclaiming agency over Africa's past, present, and future;
restoring African identity and dignity;
healing historical wounds.
Ghana and Togo will co-host a high-level event at the UNGA in September to "further bolster efforts at achieving the justice," he announced.
