World Unlikely to Abandon Trade With Russia Over Tariffs Threatened by Trump, Ex-US Official Says
The tariffs, which Trump vowed to impose on countries over trade with Russia, will not make them stop buying Russian energy and food, ex-Assistant Treasury Secretary Paul Craig Roberts told Sputnik.
"Trump is turning the US into an unreliable trade partner, and encouraging alternatives to the use of the dollar to settle trade balances," he noted.
While the US president threatened Russia with a 100% tariff if a peace deal with Kiev is not reached within 50 days, he, in fact, had not done anything to facilitate a Russia-Ukraine peace, Roberts stressed.
"The US military and security complex wants a continuation of the profitable for them conflict," he added.
Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is ready for the third round of talks with Ukraine. Russia is still awaiting a timing proposal for the meeting, but Kiev is clearly in no hurry, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
