Furthermore, the US will impose secondary sanctions on Russia and its trade partners if there is no deal on Ukraine in approximately 50 days, Trump said.
"We are very, very unhappy with [Russia], and we are going to be doing very severe tariffs if we do not have a deal in 50 days. Tariffs at about 100%. You would call them secondary tariffs," Trump said during his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office.
Trump mentioned that he's "very unhappy" with Russians and that the rate of secondary tariffs, in the absence of progress in resolving the situation in Ukraine, will be "about 100%".
He stated that he talks to Russian President Vladimir Putin a lot, and his conversations with him are always pleasant.

Trump Claims Weapons Transfer Deal With Europe 'Chance at Peace' in Ukraine

"I think this is a chance at getting peace," Trump replied when asked whether the transaction with NATO could be viewed as a step toward peace.
Trump said NATO and US permanent representative to the alliance Matthew Whitaker would coordinate the supply of American weapons to Kiev.
"It is Patriots. It is all of them. It is a full complement with the batteries. We are going to have some come very soon, within days. Actually, a couple of the countries that have Patriots are going to swap over and will replace the Patriots with the ones they have. We have one country that has 17 Patriots getting ready to be shipped," Trump told reporters when asked whether the military deliveries to Ukraine will include Patriots.
A peace deal between Russia and Ukraine nearly happened "about four times," but the talks are still ongoing, Trump said.

"I felt that we had a deal about four times. And here we are, still talking about it," Trump said during a joint press conference.

A deal should have been made "long ago" but the conflict only keeps going on, Trump added.

"I feel confident that they will do what has to be done, plus we have certain parameters that both sides know, and we already know what should be done. So I think that's going to be, it's going to be very strong. We want everlasting peace," he stated.

Earlier on Monday, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was still waiting for a proposal on the timing of the next round of talks with Ukraine, but Kiev was clearly in no hurry.
