Uganda to Provide Free Power Connections to Over 900,000 Households
On Friday, under the Electricity Access Scale-up Project, Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) and the Ministry of Energy signed two major agreements: Results-Based Financing (RBF) and Materials Provision.
Under the RBF agreement, UEDCL will initially fund 508,035 new connections, with the ministry reimbursing the company after independent verification of each connection.
The Materials Provision Agreement covers 388,400 new connections, with the ministry supplying materials such as poles, conductors, and meters.
Both agreements support Uganda’s Energy Policy and Transition Plan, which aims to raise electricity access from 60% to 100%.
The project aims to unlock 500MW of energy demand by targeting:
🟠schools,
🟠health centers,
🟠industrial parks,
🟠businesses.
