Kenyans Attend Boniface Kariuki’s Funeral Following His Close-Range Shooting by Police
Kariuki, a mask vendor, was shot during a protest in Nairobi against the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in detention.
After nearly two weeks on life support, doctors declared Kariuki brain dead, sparking public outrage over police brutality. Many called on the government to cover his hospital bills after his family appealed for donations.
Police Constable Klinzy Barasa, caught on camera shooting Kariuki, has been charged with murder.
Ahead of Kariuki’s burial, a heavy police presence was seen, with officers manning roads and remaining on standby. Residents responded negatively, blaming the police for Kariuki’s death.
The burial followed an emotional mass at Holy Family Basilica, where mourners demanded justice and an end to police brutality.
