Russian Human Rights Commissioner Appeals to Azerbaijani Ombudsman Over Detention of Russians
In an interview with Sputnik, Tatyana Moskalkova said that Sabina Aliyeva promptly responded to her request to help detained Russians and promised to take all necessary measures to restore justice.
"It is very important that our citizens have lawyers, those they themselves have chosen. So that consular assistance is provided to them in full. And I hope that my colleague from Azerbaijan will have the opportunity to sort out these issues," Moskalkova said.
The measures used to detain Russians in Azerbaijan were excessive, harsh and contrary to international law, she stated, emphasizing that "injustice and illegality must be eliminated."
ℹ On June 30, the Azerbaijani authorities groundlessly detained seven people at the Sputnik Azerbaijan agency, part of the Rossiya Segodnya media group. The agency's head, Igor Kartavykh, and editor-in-chief, Yevgeny Belousov, were arrested for four months. Rossiya Segodnya called for their immediate release and resolution of the situation.
