Tanzania Boosts Lab Testing Capacity Through Investments in Modern Equipment & Advanced Technologies
Investment in laboratory equipment has increased by 23.6% from the 2017/2018 financial year, Government Chief Chemist Fedelice Mafumiko revealed, noting that it enabled the acquisition of 16 large-scale machines and 274 smaller devices.
Mafumiko attributed the growth in samples tested to increased public awareness and stakeholder confidence in the Government Chemist Laboratory Authority (GCLA)'s quality, speed, and reliability.
In addition to lab testing, GCLA regulates chemicals to protect human health and the environment. Key regulatory activities include:
🟠Registering chemical stakeholders,
🟠Conducting inspections,
🟠Monitoring borders,
🟠Issuing chemical handling permits.
The GCLA plans to acquire even more advanced equipment to enhance testing capabilities and ensure timely results, keeping pace with global scientific and technological developments, Mafumiko concluded.
