Nigerian Economy Showing Positive Trends Amid Reforms, Says Information Minister
"Even all the rating agencies in the world are giving Nigeria some pass marks. We are seeing some upward ticks in the way our economy is being managed," Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, told a delegation of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, attributing the progress to the comprehensive reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu's administration.
The minister highlighted key reforms:
Economic Reforms
- Removal of fuel subsidies.
- Unification of foreign exchange rates.
- Positive economic impacts observed, though challenges remain.
Education & Student Support
- Approximately 300,000 students now benefit from the Student Loan Scheme (covers tuition & living expenses).
Media & National Security
- Continued progress in tackling nationwide security challenges.
- Called on media to highlight military achievements in fighting extremism.
- agreed to review a law reform report submitted by the guild that aims to update laws that hinder media practices in Nigeria.
