Kenya's Ruto Appoints New Chairperson & Commissioners to Lead Elections Commission: Legal Notice
The newly appointed chairman and six commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will serve a four-year term, with their swearing-in scheduled for Friday.
ℹ Earlier, in December 2022, President William Ruto suspended four election commissioners after they disputed his election victory, a decision that the Supreme Court subsequently upheld. The commission has been operating without a chairperson or commissioners since 2023, when the terms of the former chairman and remaining commissioners expired.
The selection process for the new commissioners, involving an interview panel and presidential approval, faced delays due to legal challenges, which were ultimately dismissed by a high court on Thursday.
