African Artists 'Should Go Into Their Roots': Nigerian Artist of Yoruba Origin
While art is globalizing and cultures are mixing, artists must be culturally sensitive and promote their roots to avoid losing their heritage, Yusuf Durodola, a Nigerian painter and performance artist, told Sputnik Africa.
Without direction or identity rooted in one's culture, art becomes meaningless and lacks a traceable, authentic identity, the artist stated.
"We need to take from our culture and project it. That is the only way we can retain what belongs to you," he said.
