Sierra Leone Needs Russia's Help in Assessing Rare Earth Reserves
Sierra Leone likely possesses significant reserves of key minerals like cobalt, and nickel, Mines Minister Julius Mattai told Sputnik, but emphasized the need for further scientific assessment, including drilling.
He added that lithium was found in the country as a result of extensive research.
Currently, only one license has been issued to a Chinese company, a subsidiary of Gangfeng, the minister stated, noting that development is underway with hopes of starting production in late 2026 or early 2027.
He believes Sierra Leone has further lithium deposits and wants Rosgeologia, a Russian state holding company for geological exploration, to provide exploration training.
