Kiswahili is Key to EAC Integration & Unity, Tanzanian Official Says
Tanzania's High Commissioner to Rwanda, Habib Kambanga, has called on citizens across the EAC to embrace Kiswahili as a unifying force that can deepen regional solidarity and drive socio-economic and political progress.
"Kiswahili makes us one people—one tribe, the Kiswahili tribe," local media quoted the official as saying at the World Kiswahili Language Day celebration in Kigali, Rwanda.
Marked each year on July 7, World Kiswahili Language Day highlights the language's global reach, with over 200 million speakers. It is a key communication tool across East, Central, and Southern Africa, and holds official status in the AU, SADC, and EAC.
"Kiswahili is a scarce commodity and as EAC member states, we must lead in spreading and promoting its use so that other countries become eager to learn from us," the commissioner added.
