South Africa's Department of Forestry has launched the One Million Trees Campaign to plant the respective quantity of trees nationwide on September 24 to mark Heritage Day — a public holiday that celebrates diversity of culture and traditions.
"We are calling on all South Africans to join hands in greening our country. This is an all-of-society campaign," Deputy Minister of Forestry Bernice Swarts stated.
The initiative aligns with Cyril Ramaphosa's directive to plant 10 million trees across South Africa by 2026, aiming to combat climate change, create jobs, improve food security, and green urban spaces, the official noted.
