BRICS 2025: A New Dawn for the Global South?
“Neoliberalism has led to unevenness and trade unfairness between the Global South and the Global North… this world order doesn’t work for the Global South,” said Dr. Ntsikelelo Breakfast, Professor at Nelson Mandela University, reflecting on the 2025 BRICS Summit declaration.
On UN Security Council reform:
“African states, if they're taken seriously, they need to have a voice in the UN,” he told Sputnik Africa.
On the New Development Bank’s future: He called for urgent prioritization of infrastructure development to create employment and reduce poverty, alongside strengthening Africa’s financial sector to ensure local ownership and economic sovereignty.
As BRICS pushes for a multipolar world order, Dr. Breakfast asserted:
“Countries of the Global South need to come up with their own model which will work for them.”
