After 40 years in captivity, Kenya the elephant from Mendoza's Ecopark in Argentina has begun her journey to the Elephant Sanctuary of Brazil in Mato Grosso.
The 3,600 km trip spans about five days and has been carefully planned for Kenya's comfort and safety, with her being prepared over the years using positive reinforcement techniques, allowing a stress-free journey without sedation.
This move is the result of a collaborative effort by Mendoza's government, the Ecopark Directorate, the Franz Weber Foundation, and the Brazilian sanctuary team.
Upon arrival, Kenya will enjoy expansive freedom on over 1,500 hectares, abundant with natural vegetation and companionship from other rescued elephants.
