Botswana & Malawi Seal Historic Deals to Boost Trade, Food Security & Sustainable Fisheries
Botswana's President Duma Gideon Boko arrived in Malawi for an official visit as a special guest at Malawi's 61st Independence Anniversary, according to the presidency.
During Boko's visit, the sides signed two pivotal Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs):
▪MOU on Aquaculture Development & Inland Fisheries Management;
▪MOU between Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) and Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC).
Key goals of the MOUs:
🟠Enhance food security;
🟠Promote climate-smart aquaculture;
🟠Empower farmers, women, and youth;
🟠Strengthen fisheries management and biosecurity;
🟠Expand research, value chains, and knowledge sharing.
To mark Malawi's Independence Day, the two countries held a friendly football match attended by both presidents. Ahead of the game, the leaders called for peace, unity, and justice as Malawi prepares for its September 16 presidential elections.
