‘A Way to Put France and Europe Back in Game of International Politics’: French Analyst on Macron-Poutine Call
The recent phone call initiated by the French president to the Kremlin demonstrates "strategic realism" in light of "Russia's firm stance regarding its positions in Ukraine," director of the think tank Strategika Pierre-Antoine Plaquevent told Sputnik Africa.
At the same time, with the Israeli-Iranian conflict escalating, "Europeans are becoming increasingly peripheral," while the US "is dealing more and more directly with Russia," he said.
In Plaquevent's view, "Euro-globalists, with Macron at the forefront," aim to "show that the globalist Europe is still present and remains a significant actor."
Nonetheless, the analyst sees "a rather significant step forward at the symbolic level" in this resumption of dialogue initiated by France, which until recently had been "at the forefront of geopolitical Russophobia."
