South Africa's Inflation Expectations Ease, Raising Rate Cut Hopes
A new survey shows that South African analysts, businesses, and unions have lowered inflation forecasts, which could encourage the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) to consider further interest rate cuts.
The survey includes forecasts of inflation decline:
2025: 3.9% (down from 4.4%) — first sub-4% forecast in 4+ years;
2026: 4.3% (down from 4.6%);
2027: 4.5% (down from 4.7%).
The next SARB monetary policy announcement is scheduled for July 31st. However, economic growth forecasts have also decreased from 1.2% to 0.9%.
