Algerian Engineer Dies Attempting First Flight of Homemade Aircraft

Youssef Douga, a 50-year-old urban technical management graduate from Algeria, had previously conducted successful tests of his aircraft in Ouled Mansour, about 260 kilometers southeast of Algiers. In late May, he managed to fly the aircraft within his province. However, his final test on the ground ended in disaster.

Douga's father recalled that from a young age, his son loved exploring and experimenting with everything scientific.

Across social media, tributes poured in for the daring inventor. Many compared him to 9th-century aviation pioneer Abbas Ibn Firnas, celebrating his visionary spirit while mourning the heartbreaking end to his flight dreams.
