Russian Fishermen Expect Favorable Conditions for Harvesting Aquatic Resources in African Countries
"The Russian fleet can expect to see favorable fishing conditions in the areas of Morocco and Mauritania in the near future, where an improvement in the state of West African horse mackerel stocks has been noted," Head of the Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov said.
According to Shestakov, Guinea-Bissau and the Republic of Guinea contain particularly valuable marine bioresources for Russian fishermen.
The findings were discussed during a recent meeting where the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography presented preliminary results from its Great African Expedition.
The expedition:
completed research in six African exclusive economic zones: Morocco, Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Mozambique, and Sierra Leone;
used advanced scientific methods;
gathered unique data on fish stocks and their habitats, which will help develop science-based recommendations for sustainable fishing in these regions;
final results are expected to be shared with the international scientific community.
