SA's DA Party Withdraws From National Dialogue, Convened by President Ramaphosa
The Democratic Alliance (DA) will vote against the upcoming budget allocations for departments led by ANC ministers accused of corruption, DA leader John Steenhuisen announced at a press conference.
The reasons cited by Steenhuisen for the withdrawal include perceived:
Failure to Address Corruption: Lack of action against corruption-accused ministers within the executive.
Erosion of Gov't of National Unity Principles: Persistent undermining of multi-party collaboration and disrespect for coalition partners.
Unfulfilled Promises: Broken commitments, including failure to implement agreements like the Statement of Intent.
Double Standards: Removal of competent officials while shielding ministers implicated in misconduct.
Misuse of Presidential Prerogative: Use of constitutional powers to justify selective accountability.
Lack of Meaningful Engagement: Absence of genuine consultation with coalition partners on critical decisions.
President Ramaphosa called for the National Dialogue on June 10. It was intended as "a people-led, society-wide process to reflect, reset and reimagine South Africa's future," addressing persistent challenges.
