The AU is now focused on enhancing the capacity of African businesses to produce more and expand their sales, the AU's Director of Industry, Minerals, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Ron Osman pointed out.
"In Africa, we are 1.5 billion people. The population of our continent represents 20% of the global population. What we want is for African businesses to represent 20% of global trade," local media quoted the official as saying.
To achieve the bold goal, Osman also advocated for support for African Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises that represent 90-95% of businesses on the continent.
"It is creating jobs, it is creating wealth, and it is taking us towards the Africa we want," she noted.
