DRC and Rwanda Sign a Peace Agreement, a "Turning Point," According to Rwandan Diplomacy
The ceremony, held in Washington, brought together:
Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs
Olivier Nduhungirehe, Head of Rwandan Diplomacy
Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State
According to a statement from the Congolese presidency, this agreement provides for the "disengagement" of Rwandan troops from the DRC: cessation of hostilities, withdrawal of soldiers, equipment, and any defensive apparatus.
Nduhungirehe also emphasized the end of support for the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, created in the DRC in the 2000s:
"The core of this peace agreement is the decision to establish a permanent joint security coordination mechanism between Rwanda and the DRC. Rwanda is ready to work with the DRC to uphold our mutual commitments," he said during the signing.
