Signalling Russia's bid to deepen its partnership with Africa, Economic Development Minister Maksim Reshetnikov said Russian fertilizer producers will boost exports to Tanzania and explore joint projects in energy, mining, healthcare, rail, and port infrastructure.
As global powers recalibrate their engagement with Africa, Tanzania's longstanding partnership with Russia has already produced solid economic benefits, and a new chapter of collaboration is unfolding.
Tanzania’s commitment to market reforms, regional integration, and foreign investment has further reinforced its geographical advantage and market appeal—making it a compelling partner for nations looking to engage meaningfully with Africa’s growth story.
African Currents spoke with Gilead Teri, Executive Director of the Tanzania Investment Centre, to discuss Tanzania's attractiveness to investors and the latest progress in its trade relationship with Russia.

"Our economy has been quite growing quite steadily over the last 30 years, growing quite fast over the last 10 years. In the last five years, certainly we have been unbeaten in terms of leading the investment charge across the continent. So quite a significant track record [...]. And over the past few years, we have seen growth in terms of sizable Russian investments within the country [...]. Tanzania and Russia have been friends for a long time, and I believe we’ll continue to be friends for a long time to come. And the energy that we’re feeling at the moment, we’re seeing Russian enterprises based in Russia, are knocking on doors, looking at the investment opportunities. And I think this is also quite an exciting opportunity. We expect that over the next couple of years, there will be numerous success stories of investment by Russian people here in Tanzania, including those collaborating with Tanzanian individuals," Teri said.
