Kenya Charges Six, Including Police Officers, in Political Blogger's Death
The six suspects, including the police commander of the station where the 31-year-old teacher and blogger, Albert Ojwang, was held, will be arraigned on Tuesday, Kenya's Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions announced.
Protests erupted in Nairobi’s Central Business District after Ojwang died in police custody. Protesters demand the arrest of Deputy Inspector-General Eliud Lagat, whose actions they blame for Ojwang’s death. Although Lagat has stepped aside, many found it insufficient.
Initial police reports cited a collapse, but a government postmortem revealed blunt force trauma and injuries consistent with assault.
